I recommend You to install kpowersave, powersaved and klaptop (apt-get install kpowersave klaptop).
Users are not allowed to see kpowersave menus or configure this application. To change this justification, please replace /etc/dbus-1/system.d/powersave.conf with this sample.

I recommend You to use the Nvidia driver due to better power management (check it with gkrellm - nVidia GPU Core °C).

Installation step by step:
1. Open http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html in Your Browser (ideally Mozilla Iceweasel = Mozilla Firefox).
2. Download the latest driver file (i. e. http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9746/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9746-pkg1.run)
3. Make runlevel 3 to non-X-runlevel (apt-get install sysv-rc-conf; deselect "kdm" from runlevel 3) and go to runlevel 3 (telinit 3). Alternate You can simply stop the KDM/KDE Desktop Manager or GNOME Desktop Manager with /etc/init.d/kdm stop
4. apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.18-3-686
5. apt-get install pkg-config
(6. apt-get install linux-source-2.6.18)
(7. cd /usr/src)
(8. tar -jxvf linux-source-2.6.18)
(9. ln -s linux-source-2.6.18 linux)
10. sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9746-pkg1.run
11. Click to "No" on the first question (no download)
12. Check Your /etc/X11/xorg.conf for best settings (sample)
13. Reboot or start runlevel 2 again (telinit 2)
14. Login to KDE and start KDE Control Center
15. Open Apearance & Themes - Fonts
16. Tick off the option "Force fonts DPI: 96 DPI"

Tip: Boot messages will shown clearly, by adding »vga=795« as Kernel option to /boot/grub/menu.lst.

Generate your /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf file or take it from here, adapt it and copy it to /etc/.
After that you have to adapt your /etc/network/interfaces file like that.
Every time you activate WLAN by the small slide switch, ifconfig starts eth2 and your wireless internet-connection is available.

Optional installation procedure [# = root; $ = user]:
# apt-get install firmware-ipw3945 ipw3945d ipw3945-source
$ cd /usr/src
$ tar jxf ipw3945.tar.bz2
$ cd linux-YOURVERSION
$ fakeroot make-kpkg --added-modules ipw3945 modules-image

# modprobe ipw3945

KDE Network Manager doesn't work for me outright. Optionally it is possible to use kwlan (Kwlan Wireless Lan Manager)
